Contrary to its traditional role, the Auditor General defied a constitutional ultimatum and refused to publish last year’s audit report.
Consequently, an audit report for 2021 is not available more than one month after June 30 2022 when the Auditor General was supposed to make that report available to both Parliament and the general public.
Per Article 187(5), the Auditor General is supposed to have submitted the 2021 audit report to Parliament on June 30, 2022.
The Auditor-General is also required to publish the same report in accordance with Section 23 of the Audit Service Act 2000.
However, it is fast approaching the middle of August and still, the Audit report for 2021 has not been presented to Parliament.
The report is also not available on the website of the Audit service.
It is not clear why, but the neglect to publish the Audit report on June 30 offends the law and reinforces speculations that the Audit Service has been compromised badly.
