Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, is smelling of corruption after she singlehandedly donated ten brand new Volkswagen saloon cars to some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in her constituency.
The Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister, whom the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has vowed to prosecute over her Ministry’s presentation of dugouts as dams after spending millions on the government’s ‘one village, one dam’ project also presented two tricycles to party people to boot.
While giving out the cars, Hawa Koomson urged people to vote for the NPP again in the 2024 elections so the party can break the eight.
And Hawa Koomson ensured that a rented press of NPP newspapers and state-owned media was at hand to report the donation.
Interestingly, however, none of the media reports indicated the source of the money that Mavis Hawa Koomson, whose monthly salary is some Ghc15,000, got to buy the free cars.
For many people, however, it was quite telling that Hawa Koomson had presented her Mother with Christmas gifts of ten free cars and two tricycles at the New Patriotic Party Office at Kasoa Opeikuma.
