US-based Ghanaian doctor and leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Arthur Kobina Kennedy, has rated President Akufo-Addo as “an abysmal failure” in the matter of his fight against corruption.
In an interview with Mugabe Maase on Inside Politics on Power FM Monday, Dr. Kennedy also said he would give the President an F (fail) if he were to mark his performance in respect of fighting corruption.
“Frankly, I will give him an ‘F’”, he said, adding that “he [Akufo-Addo] is an abysmal failure.”
Dr. A\rthur Kennedy’s assessment comes in the wake of revelations that Mr. Akufo-Addo had secretly funneled taxpayer money into funding a cathedral that he claims to have pledged to God as a boon if he was elected from opposition into office.
Revelations that the president had secreted public money into redeeming his private pledge has infuriated Ghanaians and reinforced the deep corruption plaguing Akufo-Addo.
Arthur Kennedy also took issues with the lack of reshuffling by the President two years into office even though his government has been failing.
“After 2 years in power, you should know which appointee is performing or not,” he added.
The Akufo-Addo government has been punctuated with corruption scandal after corruption scandal.
In January, Transparency International released the global 2021 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) with Ghana scoring 43 out of 100, one of the worst records in more than 20 years.
