Documents reveal that so far, Ghana’s kleptomaniac Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has clandestinely paid a staggering GHC 200 million to the lie-filled National Cathedral project.
These payments of taxpayers’ fund to finance a personal religious homage of President Akufo Addo was done illegally because none of the funds were captured in the budget.
The amount was also paid in total breach of legal requirements for Parliament’s scrutiny, as well as hiding the fraudulent payments from the Auditor-General.
Documents intercepted from the Finance Ministry by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa reveals that the Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta was practically doling out these funds as though they were his personal money.
In an October 29th, 2020 letter, Ken Ofori-Atta, acting on a request by President Akufo-Addo’s Chief of Staff, authorized the release of a staggering GHS 143 million for the national cathedral’s “planned activities.”
“It is of considerable consternation to note that contrary to legal requirements, the government concealed this ginormous GHS 142.7 million from Parliament as they deliberately failed to disclose this item as part of their Expenditure Returns of 2020 during the 2021 Budget consideration in Parliament,” Ablakwa reveals.
“So far, adding this latest exposé to our previous leaks, the Akufo-Addo government has spent a mind-boggling GHS 199, 832,603.00 of taxpayer funds on a cathedral which was originally presented to Ghanaians as a personal pledge to God that will not be executed with taxpayer funds.”
Recently, the same Ablakwa revealed that unbeknownst to Ghanaians taxpayers, the Akufo Addo administration in 2021 had secretly paid a total of GHC 32 million to Ajaye and Associates, the UK-based company contracted to build the controversial National Cathedral.
These are not the only payments. There are indications that there are several more secret payments paid to the generally disliked cathedral, and the MP has vowed to expose them all.
According to the North Tongu MP, the GHS 200 million cathedral-gate has turned out to be the biggest presidential scandal in Ghana’s entire history.
Meanwhile, despite all these huge sums paid to the project since 2020, nothing shows that work is being done on the site of the cathedral.
Whatsup News has seen the latest pictures from the building site and practically, nothing is happening there, aside from the initial foundation that was constructed more than a year ago.
