Special Prosecutor Goes After Ghost of Thieving Sir John -Freezes Assets

The Special Prosecutor (SP), Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, has frozen all the assets of the late former Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, alias Sir John.

In a statement to this effect, the SP has announced he is expecting the cooperation of the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry.

The SP wrote: “…The Office of the Special commenced full investigations into suspected corruption and corruption-related offences in respect of the alleged improper and unlawful acquisition of state lands at the Achimota forest enclave and Ramsar catchment at Sakumono in Accra by the former chief executive officer of the forestry commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, alias Sir John (now deceased) and other persons.”

The freeze follows revelations that as head of the Forestry Commission, Sir John who is now likely to suffer posthumous disgrace used his position to steal state lands.

The first of these lands were over seven acres in total from the century-old Achimota forest reserve. He obnoxiously will the stolen protected lands to his beloved nephews and nieces.

Then it also emerged that he had grabbed lands at another ecological reserve – the Ramsar site at Sakumono.

Amidst the public uproar, fuller details of Sir John’s will emerged and revealed that the man acquired so much land and money that he bequeathed to his family.
