Deputy Ranking Member on the Finance Committee of Parliament, Hon. Isaac Adongo has reacted to revelations that the Akufo-Addo government is mulling a dictatorial price control for goods in the country in the wake of Ghana’s galloping inflation.
In a Facebook post, the Bolgatanga Central MP said this spells doom for the country as it indicates that Akufo-Addo’s cabinet is now at its wits end as to what to do to arrest the current economic mess.
“To think that a government in 2022 with an economic messiah in Dr Bawumia would spend taxpayers money considering a principle that died in Ghana 43 years ago is a crime by a scammer. We are doomed,” he wrote.
Hon. Adongo’s post was in reaction to a revelation by Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a notorious cousin of president Akufo-Addo’s to the effect that the cabinet of his cousin’s government actually considered price control.
However, according to Gabby, such a measure would rather hurt the economy and that in the past such measures hurt people.
But according to Adongo, the fact that the government has come to this point where it actually is eyeing a military era economic tactic is indicative that the country is in a doom.
“I understand Gabby Otchere Darko has intimated that Cabinet considered and rejected proposals for price controls in the wake of record-high inflation. The fact that the Government was bereft of solutions to the current crisis and contemplated 20th Century policed economy is disastrous for Ghana,” Mr Adongo wrote.
“In contemporary times, students of economics are taught price controls so they know that in some era of human existence there was a principle called price controls with disastrous consequences that must never be contemplated”.
