The confusion as to how exactly the Akufo-Addo government spent the Ghc20billion that it claims it spent on COVID-19 has become clearer, courtesy of sickening revelations by the ruling NPP’s Second Vice-Chairperson for Northern Region.
Felicia Tettey, who was also the ruling party’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sagnarigu in the 20202 elections reveals that the COVID-19 funds were shared with the party’s Parliamentary candidates and executives to fund their election campaigns.
Madam Tettey, who made the revelation on radio while addressing claims that she had greedily kept her share of the COVID-19 funds, reveals she alone was given Ghc100,000 of the pandemic cash.
“The COVID fund came, I was given Ghc50, 000; my quota was Ghc50, 000 as a Regional Second Vice, who doubles as a Parliamentary candidate for Sagnarigu, I had another Ghc50,000 making it Ghc100,000,” she said.
In addition, she reveals further that the party’s constituency was given about Ghc200, 000 while the various executives were given different amounts from the COVID fund.
“Then the constituency were given Ghc200, 000 or so, I can’t remember and MCE was given Ghc30, 000; I can’t remember. Then Chairman was given Ghc20, 000 and I think the other executives, is it Ghc10, 000 (each), I can’t remember.”
The revelation unveils the real reason the government is fantastically claiming that it spent Ghc20billion on COVID-19 and it has simply become impossible to do the math.
And the Ghc20billion is not an exact figure because Vice President Bawumia, Finance Minister Ofori-Atta and President Akufo-Addo have among them, quoted Ghc8.1billion, Ghc17billion and Ghc20billion.
The conflicting figures have come up in what clearly appears to be the government’s attempt to evade accountability for the COVID-19 funds.
According to Felicia Tettey, when the money came, she, in turn, called a meeting and arranged for it to be shared according to a distribution list that the constituency had made for members.
“So I called the constituency executives to a meeting and I told them that, fine for me, I am going to add all the Ghc100, 000 that I am entitled to, to the constituency; listen ooo; I am handing over all my Ghc100, 000 to the constituency money. I didn’t ask any executive to add his money to what I was going to give the women. I handed over the forms and everybody to the team and we went around and did the disbursement,” she said.
She laments that despite sacrificing her share of the COVID-19 funds for the whole of the party in Sagnarigu constituency to enjoy, they are now claiming that she rather “chopped” the COVID-19 money alone.
