Gory reports from Nkoranza in the Bono East Region indicate that one person has been shot and killed by the Ghana Police Service (GPS) as young people of the town protest the killing of Albert Donkor, a 28-year-old trader
Whatsup News has seen videos of the gory scenes of the clash between the police and the young people in the town. The video shows angry protestors dragging the lifeless body of one of the protestors who was bleeding profusely and is believed to have been shot dead by police officers in the town.
The Nkoranza youths were protesting the reported execution of Albert Donkor, who was reported to have been wrongfully arrested after he reportedly spotted a police officer engaged in highway robbery.
According to police sources reported in the media, Donkor was hit by a bullet from a supposed member of an armed robbery gang when the Donkor was leading them to other accomplices.
But the family disagrees and accuses the Police of masterminding the killing of an innocent man.
Family spokesperson and an uncle, Rev Dr. Mathias Sarkodie providing further details said the family of the deceased was deceived by the Police as they tried to hide the fact that one of their colleagues was involved in the armed robbery. It is believed that to hide the potential witness account of Donkor, the police framed him to be one of the armed robbers and remanded him in cells. But under the cover of darkness, had led him out and executed him.
This is not the first time, police officers believed to have been conscripted from the militia gang of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been cited in armed robbery cases.
In all the cases, the only witnesses have been shot dead, including last year when a bullion van police officer in Jamestown-Accra was shot in the head by his colleague leading an armed robbery attack on the bullion van.
Meanwhile, this is also not the first time, trigger-happy officers of the GPS have shot into crowds of young people protesting the suspicious death of one of their friends.
Recently, two people were shot dead by a state security officer in Ejura in the Ashanti Region, when young people in the town mounted a protest against the murder by suspected regime thugs of “Macho Kaaka”, a social media activist whose scathing exposition was reportedly putting the Akufo Addo in a bad light.
