The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has given Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu an unspecified ultimatum, where he plans to reveal Mensah-Bonsu’s dirty secrets hidden away in the Majority Leader’s Constituency, Suame.
“At the right time, I have called Majority Leader twice, if he does not answer me from tomorrow, I will answer him. I have called the Majority Leader twice as a chairman, if he does not explain or speak about it I will tell of everything that happened in Suame. I will speak of everything that happened at Suame,” Antwi Boasiako, who is popularly called Chairman Wontumi.
This fight between Chairman Wuntumi and Mensah-Bonsu is a reflection of the seething implosion in the NN, as the elections of 2024 draws near.
Recently, the regional executive election of the party was marred by allegations that some contenders are hiring assassins to eliminate their opponents.
Meanwhile, it is generally believed that the NPP rigged the 2020 elections, using the Ashanti Region which has become its election-rigging capital. This is apparently, the secrets Wontumi has on the Majority Leader, where Mensah Bonsu is reported to have carried out some dirty rigging scheme of sorts in his constituency.
And Wontumi, a semi-literate “Galamsey” gold miner, is not the only man who has threatened to spill NPP’s dirty rigging secrets.
In the past, the party’s loose cannon Assin Central MP, Ken Agyapong, has also threatened to tell Ghanaians about dirty things that the NPP did to win the 2020 and even the 2016 elections if he is pushed.
Kyei-Mensah Bonsu’s cooking troubles with Wontumi were not of his own orchestration though. His aide, Maxwell Ofosu Boakye, recently accused Wontumi of being the reason behind the NPP’s poor performance in the 2020 elections because of the man’s wanton flaunt of wealth in hilly-billy pomposity.
This was after Chairman Wontumi had gone on his Wontumi Radio in the lead-up to the 2020 elections to display several gold bars.
It remains to be seen if Kyei-Mensah Bonsu will buckle in this battle of wills with Wontumi or call the man’s bluff.
