Highways Authority Car Snatched By Robbers At Lisonayili

Armed robbers at Jisonayili, a suburb of the Northern Regional capital, Tamale, reportedly carjacked a Toyota Hilux Pickup belonging to the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) on Friday.

The car with registration number GH 6207-20 was seized at gunpoint according to the reports.

Perpetrators of the crime struck after its driver stopped because a motor rider in front of him fell off his motorbike.

The driver had stopped so he would not run over the motor rider who had supposedly had the accident, but unbeknownst to him, the rider was a member of a robbery gang and was only pulling a stunt to halt the driver.

Soon after the driver stopped, a gunman hit the window of the car and ordered its two occupants to step out of the vehicle.

The robbers then removed the number plates of the pickup and sped away.

The incident has since been confirmed by the Northern Regional Police Command. Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Bernard Baba Ananga, has said all highway patrol units in the region have been alerted.

The Police he said, have also closed exit points of the region.

“We have since declared a manhunt for these armed robbers, and we believe most of them are coming from the same location and going round taking vehicles like that,” he added.

The superintendent said that four vehicles had been snatched in the same area just this year, and the police have been able to recover two of them.
