A former contender for the Ashanti regional chairmanship has emerged again to contest but with a shocking revelation by he was paid to step down for current Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi, to win the election.
Mr. Robert Asare Bediako, the former Chairman of the Asokwa Constituency of the NPP and the leading contender emerged with the shocking revelation ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Regional Executives elections slated for 27th to 29th May 2022.
He made the admission in an interview on GCR TV in Kumasi while speaking of his comeback for the Regional Chairmanship position.
The revelation is also coming on the heels of disturbing reports that assassins have been hired by some members of the ruling party to eliminate their opponents.
According to reports, this has left a lot of skepticism in the air with many fearing he is putting himself up again in a bid to take another bribe and walk away from the contest.
It would be recalled that in 2018, Chairman Asare Bediako was the favourite to win the Ashanti championship race after all contestants in the constituency executives election who were supporters of Wontumi lost the constituency executive position bid.
But just as it looked set for Mr. Asare Bediako to become the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, he suddenly pulled out of the race without any meaningful explanation.
Reportedly he has revealed that he took a bribe and a handshake and then walked away.
