Institute Of Engineers Begs Members To Pay Fees Through MoMo and Get Slapped with Huge Deductions

The leadership of the Ghana Institute of Engineers (GIE) has found it rather necessary to send a morale booster to members who have over the years paid their dues through mobile money after the government started the implementation of the controversial e-levy.

In a circular from the Institute, members were encouraged not to be discouraged from sending their dues through Mobile Money (MoMo) because of the 1.5 percent tax that they now have to pay in addition to their dues.

According to the circular, paying the tax amounts to good citizenship as it will help to build the country.

The Ghana Institution of Engineering, as you may be aware, uses Mobile Money as one of its modes of payment to reach out to members for payment of subscriptions. We have noticed that a lot more members prefer this method.

With the commencement of E-Levy on May 1, 2022, we wish to encourage members to continue to pay their subscriptions through mobile money and not relent because of the taxes. Let us all do the little we can to build our nation,” the circular read.

Apparently, the executive director was constrained to send the morale booster because of fears that members may soon stop paying via MoMo to avoid being double-taxed.
