The High Court in Wenchi in the Bono Region has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Mr. Gilbert A. Yeboah, the Bono Regional Chairman of the Electoral Commission.
The bench warrant was issued on Wednesday after Mr. Yeboah failed to appear in court following his summoning for cross-examination in the case in which Dr. Christopher Bayere Baasongti, the NDC’s 2020 parliamentary candidate, is challenging the declaration of the NPP’s Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah as the winner of that election.
According to reports, the judge warned that if the EC boss does not appear by Thursday to be cross-examined, the court will advise itself.
It would be recalled that the NDC after the 2020 election dared the EC to produce the collation sheets of the polls in Techiman South, insisting it was rigged in favour of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and proceeded to the Wenchi High Court to challenge the outcome.
Mr. Bayere Basongti is praying the Court to annul the declaration of Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah as the winner of the 2020 Parliamentary Election in the Techiman South Constituency and declare him as the winner instead.
On Wednesday, the Regional EC boss was expected to mount the witness box for cross-examination after the petitioner had been cross-examined.
Curiously, however, neither the lawyers for the EC nor those for Mr. Adjei Mensah Korsah turned up.
The angry judge is said to have then issued the warrant and instructed the court’s warrant officer to drag the runaway EC boss before the court by the next day.
