An association of boozers in the country has described the recent arrogant outburst of the Managing Director of the Ghana Industrial Holding Corporation (GIHOC), Maxwell Kofi Jumah, as an insult that needs apologies..
The Ghana Drunkards Association (GDA) says Kofi Jumah’s brash dismissal of concerns over sharp increases in the prices of alcoholic beverages is tantamount to adding insult to injury.
Consequently, the association led by Moses Onyah, alias Dry Bone, is warning that if Kofi Jumah does not eat humble pie and apologise it will urge its members to boycott all GIHOC products to teach the company the importance of showing respect to customers.
“We wish to state without mincing words that, in as much as there is a continual alcoholic beverage price increase in the country in recent times, the said remarks of the Director cannot be tolerated in any form or shape as it is adversely affecting our day to day hobby,” he said.
“Our members as it were cannot afford to buy the usual quantity of drinks in recent times and for a whole Director to direct our members to drink water if we cannot afford the current market price is out of place and an insult to our members. We demand an immediate withdrawal of the said statement followed by an unqualified apology as well,” Moses Onyah is quoted as saying.
Kofi Jumah, a notoriously brash man, responded to concerns about increases in the prices of alcoholic beverages by telling aggrieved patrons to drink water if they can no longer afford the beverages.
He said this in an interview with Kumasi-based Nhyira FM on Thursday, March 17, 2022: “We have increased the price of alcohol and we will continue to increase it. If you are not ready to buy then stop drinking alcohol and drink water,” the former MP said.
