The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) will soon face power cuts if it does not pay the millions that it owes the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in unpaid electricity bills.
On Tuesday, a task force from the ECG reportedly served a demand notice to the GBC for negotiation.
This is the same task force that would later storm the Kotoka International Airport and cut power to sections of the airport.
It is not clear how much exactly the GBC owes the ECG, but sources say the amount runs into millions of Ghana cedis.
And the GBC has been one of the many public sector corporations which have virtually become a dead weight on the public purse because of its inability to generate profit.
GBC, it is said, still depends on the government to pay salaries even though as the national broadcaster it has the widest coverage and strongest broadcasting signal in the country.
Meanwhile, the ECG task force is said to be poised to demand its unpaid debts from many government institutions, including the Ghana International Conference Center.
