US Embassy, Australian High Commission Alert Citizens About Kidnapping In Northern Ghana

The Australian High Commission has issued an alert to its citizens in Ghana to be wary of possibly being kidnapped for ransom in regions within the Northern part of Ghana.

The alert which was posted on social media handles, including Facebook, said the intelligence originated from the US government which has also warned its citizens to be careful.

Upper East and the Upper West Regions are the regions of focus in the alert.

“The US embassy has received information that citizens may be targeted for kidnapping for ransom in northern Ghana, to include the upper east region and upper west region. This threat could also apply to other foreign nationals,” the alert partly read.

IT added, “If you’re in northern Ghana, including the upper west and upper east regions, you may be targeted for kidnapping for ransom. You should exercise a high degree of caution in these regions.”
