The 499 law students who were last year denied admission into the Ghana School of Law for supposedly failing the entrance exams, have been admitted.
According to reports, all of the students were admitted without any qualms by the same Law School which had earlier claimed that they had failed to meet the minimum requirement to gain admission into the law school.
The capitulation and u0turn to admit the students come after a series of agitations by the students against the General Legal Council (GLC), which eventually drew in the Attorney-General and Parliament.
It would be recalled that when the issue had arisen last year, the GLC had claimed that the students failed to meet the requirements for admission hence, its decision not to admit them.
The students, who were part of a batch including the first group of 790 students, however, refuted the claim and agitated for justice.
Eventually, the Attorney General would convey President Akufo-Addo’s directive to the GLC to have the law students either get admitted or given the opportunity to prove their aptitude in an examination.
In a letter, the AG Godfred Dame said the President wanted, “the necessary intervention to the General Legal Council, on behalf of the 499 students, to address the issue and advise that the students be admitted into the Ghana School of Law.”
