The State Of The Nation Is Shambolic …Tarzan

Founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Charles Yves Wreko-Brobbey, has stepped in the stead of President Akufo-Addo, who has postponed the State of the Nation Address (SONA) to give his version of the SONA, saying it is “Shambolic”.

In a Facebook post, Dr. Wreko Brobbey who is also an energy expert declared that the state of the nation which Akufo-Addo has chickened from presenting to the Ghanaian people is a total mess.

“Fellow Ghanaians! The State of the Nation is shambolic,” he stated.

The post is in reaction to the unprecedented postponement of the SONA by the Akufo-Addo Jubilee House.

And the infamous postponement was announced by Deputy Majority Leader, and MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markins, who told Parliament that the SONA which was scheduled for 3 March 2022 has been postponed indefinitely.

According to him, the Majority side of Parliament whose leader is also the leader of Government Business and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs will announce the new date “after we have engaged the Presidency.”

Many have seen the unprecedented postponement as Mr. Akufo-Addo’s cowardly move to take the easy way out rather than facing the people and telling them that the country is broke.

Interestingly, the unpleasant message the President is dodging has already been made known by the Finance Minister who has said that the country is broke.

Per Article 67 of the Constitution, the President must update citizens on the state of the nation to Parliament at the beginning of each session of parliament.

The said provision of the Constitution reads: “The President shall, at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before a dissolution of Parliament, deliver to Parliament a message on the state of the nation.”
