Ghana Broke, Dep. Finance Minister John Kumah Exposed – As Public Sector Salaries Delay

Salaries for public sector salaries had not been paid by the 28th of February, which is the last day of the month.

This is in spite of the fact that the Controller and Accountant General had announced earlier in the year that salaries for February would be paid by the 25th of the month.

It is not exactly clear why the salaries have been delayed but Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, recently admitted that Ghana under Akufo-Addo is now broke, even though his deputy, John Kumah, had dismissed that claim, saying the government had enough money to pay public workers on schedule.

Speaking at a town hall meeting on Monday, 21 February 2022 in the Upper West regional capital, Wa, Mr. Ofori-Atta said: “…There is a legitimate demand for more and there is a legitimate reality that there is no money. So what do we do as a society?”

Also, recently, Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin announced in parliament that per his information, the government will not be able to pay salaries in the next three months if MPs do not “show leadership,” apparently suggesting a need to pass the unpopular e-levy which may escalate the volatile situation in Ghana.

“This is not to discourage the committee from doing their work. If something is not done within the next three months, the government may not be able to pay salaries. So we have to take leadership. We have to do a lot of things,” he said.

Recently, respected Law luminary, Prof. Raymond Atuguba, warned that conditions are ripe for a coup in Ghana, citing the government’s broke status.

The Akufo-Addo government has been mired in corruption and waste and has irresponsibly borrowed the country into a debt quagmire.

With the country’s debt to GDP ratio amounting to more than 81% of GDP, investors are not trusting that the government will be able to pay back and therefore are refusing to lend the gluttonously borrow-happy government whose Finance Minister’s private company makes money anytime he borrows.

While at it, the President has been wasteful; among other things, chartering an expensive private jet at US$14,000 per hour after abandoning the official presidential jet.

Recently, the president has been in the news for reportedly giving his lesbian girlfriend, Serwaa Broni, jolly rides on the private jet.

Later, Serwaa Broni would release bedroom photos from sexual escapades in a hotel room with what is alleged to be President Akufo Addo.
