COVID-19 Funds Were Used Judiciously …former Chief Justice

Former Chief Justice and Chairperson for the Covid-19 National Trust Fund, Sophia Akuffo, has claimed that the funds that Ghana received to fight COVID-19 have been used judiciously.

She made the claim at a Community Health and Wellness Day at Akropong in the Eastern Region.

“Through the immense contributions and support from Ghanaians, the trust fund has supported the implementation of various projects and provided relief intervention in various forms. These interventions comprise of the distribution of PPEs to medical facilities, covid-19 care centres, special isolation centres, hospitals, small health centres, chips compounds, labs, covid-19 testing centres as well as providing support to the needy and vulnerable persons with food items and cash contributions across the length and breadth of the country,” the former Chief Justice claimed.

The Akufo-Addo government is estimated to have received more than Ghc30billion to fight COVID-19.

The receipts include US$1billion (about Ghc7billion) from the IMF in August 2021 and an additional US$1billion special withdrawing rights in 2021, US$100MILLION from the World Bank under the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project-2 (GPSNP-2) and Second Additional Financing for Ghana COVID-19 Emergency Preparedness and Response Project (COVID-19 AF-2) of US$200.0 million to procure vaccines.
