The Motion that was supposedly filed by four MPs of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Parliament to probe the 2012 death of late former President John Evans Atta Mills has been hit with criminal impersonation.
As the NPP Majority increasingly deploys fraudulent and criminal means in the legislative chamber with impunity, two out of the four MPs who supposedly filed the private member’s motion have denied knowledge of the Motion and have demanded that their names be expunged from it.
The two impersonated MPs are MP for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku and MP for Tema Tema Central MP, Nii Noi Nortey.
A February 18, 2022 memo written to the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu by the two impersonated MPs stated that they never instructed anybody to file the motion to probe late Atta Mills’ death.
“Though we are aware of a broader discussion on the motion, we are unaware of any such motion being filed under our instructions and in our names. We, therefore, call on your High Office to expunge our names as co-sponsors of the said motion,” the two MPs wrote.
Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim has confirmed the impersonation and served notice that the Minority will demand a probe into the criminal offense.
“This relates to matters of treachery and impersonation. If the MP for Tema Central who relates to the late Professor Mills’ name is being used for a motion for an investigation that he has no knowledge of, this is tantamount to perjury and impersonation and I believe the House as a whole must investigate that act,” he told Accra based Joy News.
Hon Ahmed Ibrahim who is MP for Banda also said the leadership of the Majority will be hauled before the Privileges Committee to provide answers to the matter.
All the brouhaha is emerging when on Thursday, a Motion to have parliament probe the July 24, 2012 death of former president John Evans Atta Mills was filed.
The quartet was led by Majority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam, Frank Annoh Dompreh who has since become the prime suspect of the criminal impersonation.
The others were Tolon MP, Habib Iddrisu, Mpraeso MP, Davis Opoku Ansah, and Tema Central MP, Yves Hanson Nortey.
However, as the Tema Central and Mpraeso MP’s reveal, they had no idea of the Motion and have therefore asked that their names be removed from it.
According to the Deputy Minority Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim, after the MPs revealed they had no idea of the Motion, he decided to ascertain the veracity of their claim with the office of the Speaker.
There he found out that indeed, even though the two MPs had their names on the motion, their signatures were missing from the motion filed.
The indication is that Frank Annoh Dompreh conjured his mischievous motion and then impersonated other MPs to back it.
This trend of impersonation also played out during the debate over the unpopular e-levy in Parliament, where a woman believed to have impersonated the absent Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo was smuggled into the Chamber and allowed to vote on the fraudulent motion to pass the obnoxious e-levy.
Meanwhile, brother of the late Professor Mills, MR. Samuel Atta Mills has reiterated that the family knows what caused the death of Professor Mills and that his autopsy was done at the 37 Military Hospital.
Sammy Mills has also called the actions of the Majority MPs shameful.
“It is not necessary; we know what caused Mills’ death. I have a copy of the autopsy report. It was done at the 37 Military Hospital, why do you always want to play politics with my brother’s death? Every year, they want to remind us of our hurt, why can’t you let sleeping dogs lie? They should be ashamed of themselves,” Sammy Mills slammed the NPP.
