Chief Executive Officer of the African Energy Consortium, Kwame Jantuah, has explained that Ghanaian’s are not open to the obnoxious E-Levy idea because they feel the Akufo-Addo government has not handled the economy well and cannot be trusted.
Speaking on New Day morning show program on Accra-based TV 3, Mr. Jantuah who is also a legal practitioner said Ghanaians do not believe that if the E-Levy is passed, the government will handle whatever money accrues wisely.
“There is a question of trust. Ghanaians want to know if they can trust the government to account to them on the use of the e-levy money. Do the people feel the government has handled the economy well? From a look of things it doesn’t look so,” he said.
Even though Mr. Jantuah was speaking to the ‘Yentua (we won’t pay) demonstration that opposition parties held against the E-Levy last Thursday, his explanation comes in the wake of revelations that President Akufo-Addo abandoned the presidential jet and chartered the luxurious jet he has been criticized for on his ongoing ten-day trip to Europe.
That trip will cost the taxpayer more than Ghc4.9million.
