The tyrannical actions of the Akufo Addo administration surface again with the midnight arrest of Oliver Barker-Vormawor for using the words “Coup” and “Army”.
Mr. Barker-Vormawor, a Ph.D. research fellow at the University of Cambridge and a constitutional lawyer was visiting Ghana from the United Kingdom for an interaction with members of the diplomatic corps when he was ambushed by National Security operatives and whisked away to Tema where he was detained.
For almost 24 hours, at the time of this report, he has been refused access to his lawyers or even his family. His whereabouts are currently unknown as his family and friends scout the entire Greater Accra Region to find which regime Gulag he is being kept in.
An official statement from the #FixTheCountry Movement confirmed that his whereabouts remain unknown after unidentified armed men abducted him. “ His lawyers and family are still unable to confirm his location or condition.”
This is after the Ghana Police Service (GPS) had confirmed that he has been arrested for using the word Coup in his posts.
Following the intense anger over the Akufo Addo administration’s insensitive e-levy policy proposal and the Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia dancing to an irksome e-levy cake to spite the citizens, Oliver had stated that he will personally organise a “coup”.
However, Whatsup News can confirm that Mr. Barker-Vormawor had cryptically used the word in its original form from its French etymology, meaning to “strike” or “hit”.
His context becomes clear with several posts he had made over the course of five days, where he had described the Ghana Army as useless for the spate of state-sponsored murders they had undertaken recently.
In another post after he had stated that he will personally organise a coup if the e-levy was passed, he clarified his use of the word when he announced that the #FixTheCountry movement had reached an agreement with some international lawyers to fight to overthrow the attempts by the Akufo Addo administration to pass an e-levy tax on angry and overburdened Ghanaians.
“Earlier this week, FixTheCountry reached an agreement in principle with the International Lawyers Project. They have agreed to team up with our legal team by assisting us… to bring a solid lawsuit against the E-Levy it ever passes through Parliament. Huge Coup,” Oliver stated.
Apparently, a paranoid Akufo Addo administration had failed to properly understand the various semantic meaning the word “Coup” means. The government’s automatic response to the mention of the word is to equate it with Coup d’état, which is a systematic military overthrow of a government.
Barker-Vormawor’s arrest is the latest in a string of brutal crackdown and killing of dissenting voices and the media by the Akufo Addo administration that has clandestinely sneaked in the repealed Criminal Libel law.
The Akufo Addo administration’s rule of terror, a few days ago, saw the arrest of Kwabena Bobbie Ansah of Class Media Group (CMG).
In its typical modus operandi, the security agents ambushed the unsuspecting journalists, handcuffed him and bundled him into a waiting car.
Ansah who is the host of ‘The Citizen Show’ on Accra FM, was picked up on Thursday, February 10, 2022, like a criminal for his posts on Facebook and for exposing a reported land grabbing activity of the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo Addo.
