The US Embassy in Ghana has made donations to the victims of the recent deadly explosion at Apiatse near Bogosu in the Western Region.
The donation, including clothing, food and clinical supplies, was made on Thursday 3 February 2022.
According to the Embassy, the donation was funded by the US Department of Defense’s Overseas Humanitarian, Disaster Assistance, and Civic Aid program.
“Companions help companions in the midst of hardship. That is the reason we’re helping the Appiatse people group in the repercussions of this mishap,” US Ambassador to Ghana, Stephanie S. Sullivan said.
US Army Major Jarrod Simek of the Office of Security Cooperation handed the donation over to the chiefs and people of the area.
Last month, a vehicle transporting mining explosives exploded after it was involved in an accident at Apiatse. About two dozen people are reported to have died while hundreds suffered various degrees of injury.
Also, several hundred houses were leveled in the explosion.
Meanwhile, the Apiaste Support Fund Committee, headed by Dr. Joyce Aryee, has encouraged Ghanaians to contribute to the fund with the hint that there is intent to remake Apiaste into a green town.
She said two accounts have been opened at GCB Bank Plc and Stanbic Bank – 101130036123 and 90400099749 respectively – into which donations can be made.
The council she said, also has opened a website: www.
She said apart from President Nana Akufo-Addo, who has given GHS100, 000, various individuals have also contributed their widow’s mite and that they are confident that by March they would have received enough donation to start the rehabilitation project.
