Price Hike Hits Guinness, As Ghana Economy Collapses

Popular brewery, Guinness Ghana Brewery PLC will from the 7th of February, officially announce price hikes for its popular beverages, including the dark-bottled Guinness loved by many in Ghana.

This gloomy announcement is a result of new taxes and levies slapped on businesses by the Akufo Addo administration which has been driven into desperation for new sources of revenue, following its collapse of the Ghanaian economy.

Guinness’ announcement of its consequent move to hike prices of its product in line with the new taxes is contained in a memo that the company has been serving its distributors since February 1, 2022.

“This price adjustment is as a result of multiple market forces but more specifically aligning our taxes and levies to the new regime as communicated by the GRA,” the company stated.

The new prices will take effect from Monday, February 7, 2022, the company stated.

Guinness Ghana has some of the most popular and widely consumed beverages in Ghana, including flagship Guinness (beer), Star Beer, Malta Guinness, Orijin and Smirnoff.

Consumers of these popular products must now brace for higher prices for their favourite alcoholic beverages as a result of taxes from the Akufo-Addo government.
