…after turning down appointments from Kufuor and Mills
Ace football commentator, Mr. Kwabena Yeboah, has finally accepted a political appointment after turning down similar overtures from ex-Presidents John Kufour and late John Evans Atta Mills.
The scandal-prone Akufo-Addo government has named him alongside Kwadwo Egyir-Danso, as a member of the Governing Board of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
A 14th January letter from the Jubilee House, signed by Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare, communicated the appointments to the Minister of Transport.
“Kindly be informed that Mr. Kwadwo Eguir-Danso and Mr. Kwabena Yeboah have been nominated as Members of the Board of Directors of Ghana Airports Company Limited in addition to members that were listed in our previous letter,” the letter said.
Even though the letter says that Mr. Yeboah and the other man have been nominated, their confirmation will just be a formality.
It also means that Mr. Yeboah, a well-respected sports commentator and broadcaster, has accepted to be on the Board, a political appointment; something that he has in the past indicated he is not comfortable with.
Mr. Kwabena Yeboah is known to have revealed that in the past he turned down appointments as Sports Minister from former President Kufuor and Kufuor’s successor Mills.
It is not clear why he has accepted this appointment from the Akufo-Addo government, which comparatively has been more scandal-prone than the other two governments.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kwabena Yeboah and Mr. Egyir-Danso add on to seven members that have already been appointed to the Board of the GACL. They include broadcaster, Paul Adom Otchere, who is Chairman, Mr. Yaw Kwakwa, MD of the GACL and Transport Minister, Francis Kofi Nunoo.
