The Chief of Bogoso in the Western Region has contradicted the government’s official tally of deaths in the explosion of a huge cache of dynamites that resulted in the carnage that leveled an entire town on Thursday.
According to Osabarima Kwasi Sompreh, more than forty (40) died in the explosion and not 17 as officially stated by the government.
The Omanhene who was speaking on Kumasi-based Angel FM, also contradicted the government’s claim that 59 other people had been wounded in the blast, saying the number of the wounded is not readily known.
This is the second contradiction that the government’s casualty figure from the accident is suffering after the Police had earlier revised down the death toll to 13.
It is therefore not clear what the true figures are. But, this is not the first time the government had cooked up figures either.
The police have said a truck transporting explosives to a mining site collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the explosion at Apeatse.
The vehicle which belonged to mining services contractor MAXAM was headed for Chirano Gold Mines when the accident happened.
