Even as the country is yet to come to terms with the massive explosion at Apeatse in the Western Region on Thursday, another explosion has occurred in the Ashanti Region with sketchy casualties.
According to unofficial reports, the Friday explosion at the Kaase industrial area in Kumasi did not kill anybody but left at least 50 makeshift structures occupied by squatters totally burnt.
Reports indicate the explosion had resulted from a fuel stealing escapade that had gone wrong.
Reportedly, thieves had been siphoning fuel from a tanker at a hideout when it caught flames as a result of sparks from the engine of a tricycle nearby.
There was a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service which quickly deployed four fire tenders to fight the flames.
Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, Rashid Nisawu, is reported as saying that the fuel thieves had failed in their attempts to douse the fire, which later spread to other parts of the area.
Friday’s explosion follows an earlier explosion a day before at Apeatse near Bogosu in the Western Region in which a truck carrying mining explosives had caught fire in an accident and blasted killing some 40 people and displacing scores.
