Corruption Is A Chronic Disease That Must Be Tackled At All Cost

…Prof. Opoku Agyemang

The 2020 Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, has repeated the over-flogged metaphor that corruption is a debilitating chronic disease that must be cured at all cost in Ghana.

Addressing an anti-corruption forum she said Ghana cannot afford to give up on the fight to root out the canker.

According to the former Education Minister, corruption can be related to that of an illness which is difficult to treat yet doctors do not give up and continue to give their best to find a cure for it.

“Let me use the analogy of illness. Some illnesses are very difficult to treat yet the doctors are not giving up, they try to find ways to mitigate the effect of the illness if not to cure it. They never throw up their hands in despair,” she said.

She added that, the issue “is something that we must get rid of and if it is the law that we must change to change the perception of even the people so be it. The present situation finds itself among the worst we have seen on the road of getting rid of corruption,”

Corruption Index in Ghana increased to 43 Points in 2020 from 41 Points in 201

In January 2020, a report by U.S News rated Ghana as the third most corrupt country in the world, among 73 countries in its 2020 Best Countries rankings.

The ranking had been based on a survey of more than 20,000 global citizens.

Ghana came third only to Mexico, the second most corrupt country in the world and Colombia is perceived to be the most corrupt country in the world.
