Anlo Traditional Council Vows To Find Solution To Perennial Tidal Waves

The Anlo Traditional Council has vowed to find a solution to the perennial tidal waves that have assaulted the coastal towns of the Anlo State.

In a statement issued in the name of the Awomefia of the Anlo State, Togbui Sri III and signed by Togbi Zewu lV, the Council said steps are being taken in collaboration with both governmental and non-governmental organizations to find a lasting solution to the problem.

“His Royal Highness, The Awomefia of Anlo, and the entire Traditional Council wish to assure the affected victims that they have been fully briefed on their plight. The delay in responding to the disaster is as a result of the collation of reports from the three affected districts – Anlo, Keta, and Ketu South. Following deliberations on these reports, steps are being taken in collaboration with both government agencies and non-governmental organizations to find a lasting solution to this wicked problem,” the statement said in part.

A delegation from the Council has visited chiefs and opinion leaders of the affected areas and discussed mitigation measures.

The statement comes in the wake of tidal waves hitting the coastlines of Anlo and destroying properties worth millions of cedis, with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration practically looking the other way as the waves destroyed houses and properties, particularly in Keta, one of the major towns in the area.

Even though the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has said it is working to bring relief, relief responses from the government agency have been slow, residents complained.

According to the Council, the plight of victims has been made known to them. “The Awomefia of Anlo State, Togbi Sri lll, The Awadada of Anlo State, Togbi Agbesi Awusu ll, The Paramount Chiefs, DIVISIONAL CHIEFS AND THE ENTIRE Anlo Traditional Council wish to state that they empathize with their sons and daughters who were affected by the devastation caused by the tidal waves in the early hours of November 2, 2021,” read the statement.
