The Metropolitan Chief Executive for Sekondi-Takoradi, Mr. Anthony Kobina Kurentsi Sam, has reportedly died of suspected COVID-19.
The death report comes a few weeks after his personal driver tested positive for the virus.
Presiding Member of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly Kwesi Buckman, reports that the mayor had been receiving treatment in Accra in an undisclosed health facility.
According to him, while on admission the late Mayor was never allowed to speak to anyone and that “his phones were even off.”
“Last week Wednesday he was even in the office, but I’m told he was taken to Accra for treatment and was prevented from speaking to anyone,” Mr Buckman said.
According to Accra based Joy FM, prior to his hospitalization, the late Mayor had continued to report to work even after his personal driver had tested positive for the virus.
If he indeed he ignored the required precautionary measures to isolate himself after his driver contracted the disease, he may have passed on the infection to others at the the municipal office.
