Kenkey has lost weight in Ghana Under Akufo-Addo …Mahama

Former President Mahama cites evidence of the high cost of living in Ghana in popular local delicacy, saying the regular ball of Kenkey has lost weight under President Akufo-Addo.

In an interview on Cape Coast-based Cape FM, he told his interviewer that the evidence is also in the fact that maize price has also shot through the roof under Akufo-Addo.

“Corn used to be between Ghc100 and Ghc120 per bag. Today a bag of maize is almost Ghc400. If you take kenkey, for example, it was this big. Today, when you buy Kenkey Ghc1.50 it has shrunk like something.”

Mahama continued: “When we were leaving power, cement was Ghc27, Today what is the price of a bag of cement? When I was leaving power, petrol was Ghc14, today how much is it? Iron rods…even food, ask your wife, when she goes to the market, the prices of food today and the 2016 prices how are they? Ask farmers how much fertilizer is going for today?”

Mr. Mahama pointed out that the Akufo-Addo government has only deceived Ghanaians, saying their grandiloquent promises they made in opposition have still not been fulfilled.

“I told them that they had not experienced governance before and so they did not have the experience but they said they knew it all,” he said, pointing out that they said among other things that they would never borrow to fix the country, Ghanaians were hungry amidst plenty money if the fundamentals are week the exchange rate would expose you…yet today how is life under them?” Mahama queried.
