A Daewoo Cargo truck fully loaded with assorted Pharmaceutical Products including tuberculosis drugs that are not for sale has been impounded by the Western North Regional Police Command.
The truck, with registration number AS 6408-20 was said to be en route to the Ivory Coast when it was intercepted.
The driver along with other suspects has been put in Police custody.
ASP Michael Nkekesi, PRO for the Command, said the interception was done by Police in Juaboso on Monday, October 18, 2021, at a police and immigration checkpoint at Jato in the Sefwi Juaboso District of the Western North Region.
The officers had been undertaking routine Police checks.
Briefing the media on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at the Western North Regional Police Headquarters, ASP Michael Nkekesi, said, the impoundment was out of suspicion that the drugs were being smuggled to Ivory Coast.
Preliminary investigations, the Police said, have indicated that the truck was aiming to transit Sefwi Akaatiso in the Bia West District which shares a direct boundary with the Ivory coast.
“So those escorting the drugs will make the transit and smuggle it through the borders of Sefwi Akaatiso. Some of these smuggled drugs arrested includes tuberculosis treatment drugs with embossment not for sale”
