In the aftermath of a shocking landslide confirmation of President Akufo-Addo’s nominee for Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, a storm is blowing within the tonstituency branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The ugly details surfacing entails the alleged acceptance of a whopping Ghc15,000 bribe each by 8 out of 13 Assembly Members who are said to be pro-NDC and would have rejected Anita Obo Love Amissah.
The bribe was said to have been received at the behest of the NDC Constituency Chairman, Steven Ofosu Agyare, after it had been offered by the MP for the area, Mavis Hawa Koomson.
The reason for the snowballing scandal is that the Chairman is said to have been greedy about the bribe, and only passed down some of the dirty money to his Constituency Secretary, Amadu Tuarig.
Tuarig has since become a casualty, constrained to resign his post as matters heat up and the generality of the NDC support base there curses the executives for betraying the party’s interest for NPP’s dirty money.
Chairman Ofosu Agyare has since snubbed invitations by WhatsUp News to speak to the allegations, while Tuarig has lied that he has not resigned his post.
Constituency Communications Officer, Delali Seworkpor, has also attempted to talk Wahtsup News into dropping the story without really addressing the alleged criminality involved.
According to information, the NDC holds sway in the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly of the Central Region. Out of a total of 13 elected Assembly Members and 6 government appointees, 8 are pro-NDC.
Consequently, when President Akufo-Addo nominated Madam Anita Obo Love Amissah for confirmation as MCE, the NPP knew it faced an uphill task to get the two-thirds majority required to approve her.
Mavis Hawa Koomson, the notorious gangster MP for Awutu Senya East, then allegedly met with the pro-NDC Assembly Members and offered to buy their votes.
The Assembly Members deferred and made the deal known to Chairman Ofosu Agyare, who initially told the Assembly Members not to budge so that the NPP would be forced to sit down with the NDC for proper negotiations and concessions to the NDC as a whole.
However, when the Assembly Members later returned to Chairman Agyare and told him the NPP was offering Ghc15, 000 each, he allegedly gulped hard and told his Assembly Members not to give money a chance.
On an NDC WhatsApp Platform called “New Era for ASEC (Awutu Senya Constituency)” Tuareg posted his resignation in the words, “I, Amadu Tuarig, have resigned my position as Constituency Secretary of the NDC in the Awutu Senya East Constituency.”
This was after he had been fired by angry members for taking the fall for the alleged bribe-gulping Constituency Chairman.
Interestingly when Whatsup News called Tuarig and asked him about his resignation, he vehemently denied that he has resigned his post.
According to him, “the resignation claim is the figment of somebody’s imagination.”
