The Fia of the Aflao Traditional Area in the Volta Region has demanded that the Akufo-Addo government complete an E-Block educational infrastructure that was bequeathed to it by the Mahama government in 2016.
Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti, made the demand when members of the Minority side of the Education Committee of Parliament visited to inspect the community day Senior High School facility which has remained 90% completed since 2016.
“After senior high school education, the next degree that my people have to do is to go to border and go and do kayayo, no school. Should we beg for education?” Torgbui Fiti asked exasperatedly.
It cost Ghc9million to put up the 200 classroom facility, with modern fitments including a science block and laboratory. However, the Mahama government lost power in 2016 before the facility would be completed.
The Akufo-Addo government has since abandoned the school block which has now been taken over by weeds.
“The only school that we have is the RC Senior High School that belongs to the Catholic Mission Minor Seminary. So this thick population have no place to go and people sit down in that big hall called parliament and not thinking about Aflao, a place after the Tema Harbour, the next revenue generation is from the Aflao border,” Torgbui Fiti said.
The Paramount Chief of Aflao laments he had had to seriously lobby the Mahama government for the facility only for the Akufo-Addo government to abandon it to weeds.
“I had to push the former President Mahama for the structure to be constructed over there. I had to be running from here to Accra begging.”
