When armed robbers struck at Afiedenyigba in the Keta Constituency of the Volta Region earlier in the week, the Police’s response was to go after them with guns that could not fire, Whatsup New gathered.
According to a group of Anlo citizens of the Volta Region called “Concerned Citizens of Anlo” who are lamenting an uptick in robberies in the area, recounts how the Police had no reply for armed robbers that had shot at the MP for Keta, Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey who had responded to a distress call from his brother.
“…to our utmost surprise, the guns of the Police officers present were not functioning, therefore it took the wisdom and mercy of God to save the MP and his brother from cruel death from these unscrupulous persons,” the concerned citizens of Anlo said in a statement.
They are demanding that the Ghana Police Service “investigate this crime to the bottom and let the robbers face the full rigours of the law to serve as a deterrent to others.”
Meanwhile, the statement which was signed by Wonder Setsoafia Deynu, Convener of the group, called on traditional authorities of Anlo and well-meaning citizens to help the toy gun Police Service in fighting crime in the area.
“We call on the chiefs of Anlo to kindly give order to their palaces and town guards and watchdog committees to help the police offer protection to our Communities since the police service alone cannot do it”
The Keta MP was hospitalized over the weekend after armed robbers shot at his vehicle in a confrontation after the MP had responded to a distress call from his brother whose shop was being robbed.
“We, the Concerned Citizens of Anloland, are vehemently against these dreadful acts and call on the youth to be circumspect with their dealings in their daily lives. We would like to caution anyone who is thinking of going into these uncalled acts to desist from it immediately since they will be dealt with when caught,” the statement from the group said.
