Parliament Resumes 26th October

-Akufo Addo’s Expensive “Air Jacuzzi” & Anti-LGBTQ++ legislation on the Table

The Ghanaian Parliament will return from recess on October 26th, 2021, according to a notice of the commencement of the third meeting of the first session of the eighth Parliament by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

“In pursuance of Standing Order 37 of the Parliament of Ghana, I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, hereby give notice that the Third meeting of the First Session of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic shall commence on Tuesday, the 26th day of October 2021 at ten o’clock in the forenoon at Parliament House, Accra,” read the notice was issued on 1st October 2021.

Parliament has been on recess since August 4, 2021.

Ahead of the resumption of sittings, many are looking forward to Parliament summoning Ministers over President Akufo-Addo’s expensive junkets on luxurious private jets as well as a consideration of the anti-LGBTQ++ bill currently in the schedule of the House.

The North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has indicated he will instigate the house to question the Executive over the President’s newfound expensive pastime.

Ghana has a unicameral Legislature composed of 275 Members of Parliament from single-member constituencies with an Executive President who appoints Ministers majority of whom by the Constitution have to come from Parliament.
