The management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has issued a desperate statement saying COVID-19 infection rate has taken an astronomical turn in the prestigious university.
A press statement issued on Monday signed by the Deputy Registrar, Daniel Kumi-Djan, said school authorities have directed that there be strict adherence to all Covid-19 safety protocols at the various colleges to curtail the spread.
“There is an astronomical upsurge in the spread of the Covid-19 on KNUST campus. Consequently, all veronica buckets are to be filled and used constantly, also hand sanitisers, wearing of nose masks are to be strictly enforced,” portions of the communique read.
It is unclear what COVID variant is running rampant in the school is reportedly raging among new infections in the country. The Delta variant is said to be more infectious and deadlier.
It appears Kumasi has become a new epicentre for COVID-19. The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has disclosed that some10 people have died from the disease in the metropolis in the past two weeks to bring Ghana’s total death toll to 810 currently.
