Unruly Kennedy Agyapong Attempts Fight In Court

A rabid Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong was in near fisticuffs at the Accra High Court with attorneys for the investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Ken Agyapong was cross-examined over a defamation case filed Aremeyaw. When the lawyer Samuel Darko noted that Agyapong may not be on top of his narration and asked his lawyers to brief him properly, the lawmaker got angry and hurled invectives at the lawyer.

“You’ve to be careful the way you to talk to me . You are very foolish I’m an MP. You’re insulting an MP and supporting criminals, “Agyapong fumed making a spectacle of himself in the witness box.

Anas Aremeyaw’s lawyer responded by reminding him that his unruly behaviour was a desecration of the court.

“When the witness disrespects the bar, he disrespects the court, and desecrating the sanctity of the court,” Sammy Gyamfi fired back.

Eventually, the presiding judge, Justice Eric Baah , was forced to intervene and cautioned the irate Agyapong to withdraw the insults.

“The words used are not acceptable and I call on the witness to withdraw his words,” the judge said, forcing Agyapong to withdraw and apologise.

The protracted defamation charge had been dragging on since 2018, when Mr. Aremeyaw in June 2018, sued the MP for allegedly defaming him.

On May 29, 2018, during a live programme in Twi on Adom TV, Mr Agyapong stated unequivocally that Aremeyaw was a criminal and a blackmailer who had supposedly extorted huge sums from his victims in the guise of investigating them.

An angry Aremeyaw had gone to could to claim damages to the tune of Ghc25million in damages.
