The Accra Regional Police Command swooped some 215 suspected criminals believed to be linked to the recent spate of bullion van ambushing in the country.
The latest attack saw a police escort in one of the cash-in-transit bullion vans shot in the head while an eyewitness was also shot and killed in the process in James Town-Accra.
The three-day operation began on Thursday, June 17, 2021, and ended on Sunday, June 20, 2021, with motorbikes and some suspected weapons confiscated.
Among the rounded-up suspects include 17.
“The Police mostly intercepted wrapped narcotics substances, sharp implements, mixtures of concoctions laced with narcotics, tramadol, etc. The operation also targeted and impounded 168 motorbikes, believed to be used in facilitating the robberies,” a police statement read.
The arrested suspects have been detained and undergoing various levels of screening for possible connection to cases under investigation.
“The Accra Regional Police Command remains resilient and assures members of the public of providing maximum security as it opens its doors for continuous public cooperation and volunteering of useful information in stemming the ties,” the statement added.
Two bullion vans were attacked by robbers at two different places last week.
There have been other cases of robberies and killings reported in other parts of the country and these suspects are believed to be involved in these crimes.
