The activities of a Chinese company within Bortianor and its environs have been fingered for what has been described as artificial earth tremors and quakes within the area.
Sunda Ghana Limited, the company is said to blasting rocks in the area as part of its activities and this has been resulting in series of quakes and tremors that have made life a living hell for the people within the catchments area.
These areas include Bortianor, Redtop, Westhills City, Aplaku, Old Barrier and Weija SCC.
“In the course of their construction works, they have been blasting a rocky area which used to be a stone quarry, in an apparent attempt to level the ground for construction works to begin,” explains Chairman of the Westhills City Landlords and Residents Association, Reverend Antwi Wiredu.
He adds that due to the ongoing activities of Sunda Ghana Limited, “Buildings are cracking, walls are being weakened, fear and panic being caused to residents of especially Westhills City.”
Rev. Wiredu alleges that despite several appeals to the company, their concerns have not been addressed causing residents to live in fear in the area.
“Leaders of the Community have approached the contractors to put a stop to the blasting of rocks or find other alternatives of doing it but these have all fallen on deaf ears. The worst of the blasting which shook the entire community and neighbourhoods was experienced at 21:50GMT on Saturday, June 12, 2021, making people storm out of their rooms to safety thinking it was another earthquake,” he said.
He is therefore calling on the government to come to the aid of the people there.
