National Security Arrests Galamsey Kingpin In Jubilee House

…Minority Leader reveals

Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrissu, has revealed that a kingpin of illegal mining who is also a high-up at the Presidency has recently been arrested by National Security after he was thrown up by an investigation.

At an engagement with the Parliamentary press corps, Hon. Haruna Idrissu who is also the MP for Tamale South said the name of the gentleman is given only as Damoah.

He warned that the issue has gotten to the Minority’s attention and that keen eyes are already following the progress of development around it.

“I hear a gentleman was picked up some few days ago at Jubilee House; one Damoah. We [Minority] are following the case closely and nobody should attempt to cover up what his doings have been in relating to his engagement or involvement in galamsey,” he said.

“Now the President is fighting his own men. We are beginning to know the persons behind the illegal galamsey. They are all acting on the strengths that their government is in power.”

The development comes in the wake of the arrest of some National Security personnel who were caught engaging in illegal mining in the Atewa forest by people of the town. The arrestees would later say that they had been sent to dig for gold in the forest by persons at the presidency.

It is not clear if this arrest is a ripple from that earlier arrest.

Meanwhile, the Minority leader urged government to be decisive with the arrest and let the perpetrator face the full rigors of the law.
