Ghana’s troubled premier teaching hospital, the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has revealed more rot plaguing the facility as two persons were arrested on Saturday, May 22, 2021, for stealing pints of blood from the starved blood bank at the hospital.
This adds to the dirty deals going on at Korle-Bu, where some workers have been cited in the past for trading in newborn babies, as well as the perennial lack of resources at the hospital.
In the latest racket, the blood thieves were reportedly apprehended through a special operation after their activities were tracked by investigators.
According to a statement issued by the Management of Korle Bu on May 22, 2021, the two were busted on a tip-off when they attempted to spirit several pints of blood from the Korle-Bu blood bank around 2 am on Saturday, May 22.
The statement said surveillance was mounted on the thieves, leading to their arrest.
“They were arrested at the Surgical third floor when they attempted to steal several pints of blood that had been mobilised for various surgical procedures,” the statement indicated.
The suspects have reportedly been handed over to the Korle Bu Police Station which has instituted an investigation into the incident
