The Akufo Addo administration has once more slapped travel restrictions to and out of Ghana over what it claims is an “alarming rate of infections of Covid-19 in some parts of the world”.
In a statement to the media communicating the recommendations of the Ghana Health Service for the travel restrictions, the Ministry of Foreign Regional Integration has advised Ghanaians to restrict travel to only essential purposes.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration said Ghanaians who need to travel to any COVID-19 hotspot must observe all COVID-19 protocols.
“In view of the alarming rate of infections of COVID-19 in some parts of the world, especially in Asia and South America, the Ghana Health Service wishes to advise the general public to either cancel or postpone all non-essential travels to countries with exceedingly high COVID-19 infection rate,” the statement said.
According to the requirements within the new travel restrictions, only travellers with test results or certificates bearing trusted travel or biomass codes will be considered valid for travel out of Ghana
Also, all arriving passengers who test negative for COVID-19 at the airport are encouraged to self-isolate for ten (10) days, and those arriving from COVID-19 hot spots, particularly in Asia and India and had tested negative at the airport will still be subjected to a repeat test on the third day of arrival at their cost
These new travel restrictions are coming in the heels of a devastating second wave that has reportedly hit India in the past week.
The Frontier Healthcare Services, tasked with testing for COVID-19 at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) had also warned of an alarming rate of arriving passengers testing positive, despite them having tested negative in their country of origin.
