Akuapem Poloo Gets Ghc80,000 Bail

Actress and singer, Akuapem Poloo, aka Rosemond Brown, has been granted bail after the 90-day jail term she had received last week.

The bail is in the sum of Ghc80,000, with other conditions including the provision of two sureties to be justified.

Also, she is to report to the Police every two weeks and deposited her passport with the court so that she can only travel with the permission of the court.

The bail application had been made pending an Appeal and had not been opposed by the State.

Justice Ruby Aryeetey, the Presiding Judge, said Akuapem Poloo has satisfied all the bail conditions.

Last week, an Accra Circuit court had sentenced Akuapem Poloo to a total 270 days in jail after pled guilty to three charges – publication of obscene materials, engaging in domestic violence namely conduct that in any way undermines another person’s privacy or integrity and engaging in domestic violence namely conduct that in any way detract from another person’s dignity and worth as a human being.

However, the sentence was to run concurrently and so she was supposed to spend a total of 90 days in jail.

The case had resulted from the actress, posing butt naked in a picture with her seven-year-old son on his seventh birthday, and then posting the photo on social media.

Many commentators had observed that even though the photo was distasteful, the sentence was harsh.
