Chief Imam Announces Commencement Of Annual Ramadan Fast

The 2021 holy month of Ramadan starts today, April 13, 2021, the Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, has announced.

Through the website of his official TV channel, Sharubutu TV, the national Chief Imam officially declared that the Ramadan Moon had been sighted, providing the cue for the commencement of the month-long fast towards the celebration of Ramadan.

“The new moon of Ramadan 2021 has been sighted in two regions of Ghana; ie, Volta and Eastern Regions. So fasting starts tomorrow 13/04/2021, Insha Allah,” the announcement said.

It wished all Muslims who will undertake the annual ritual, well. “May our fasting meet the divine expectation,” he said.

In the next 31 days, all participants in the fast will stay away from food and water for 12 hours each day as an act of humility before Allah. The fast will be climaxed with a celebration of the Ramadan festival, known as Sallah in the local parlance.
