Kaneshie Police Clamp Down On Okada Riders

The Kaneshie Police yesterday impounded 60 motor bicycles, many of which belong to commercial motor riders known in local parlance as ‘Okada’ riders.

In the five-hour operation, arrestees included riders who solicited for passengers, those who rode without helmets, those without insurance and license, and those who parked haphazardly.

In a statement, the district Police Command said the exercise is part of a clampdown on activities of criminals within the area.

The suspects are being processed for court, the statement added.

A number of district commands in Greater Accra have been undertaking swoops in their areas of operation as part of a new proactive approach at crime-fighting by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.

Since March 3, various district Commands including Nungua, Adentan and Kaneshie have arrested some 120 suspects.
