A 75-year old man has been shot dead by a stray bullet Gomoa Nyanyano in the Central Region.
Apparently, the gun was fired after misunderstandings erupted at an installation of a chief in the town.
The deceased, Kofi Abasa was hit by a stray bullet and died shortly after in the hospital.
It is still unclear who fired the gun, as no arrest has so far been made by the Police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Irene Serwaah Oppong, Central Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Police Service said investigations are ongoing.
According to the police PRO, on Sunday, February 28, at about 07:55 hours, the police received a distress call that someone was shot at. The Police proceeded to the scene and met about 40 young men fighting among themselves and had to call for reinforcement to help manage the situation.
Gomoa Nyanyano has three royal families that rotate the chieftaincy throne, but after the death of the last chief, the three royal families started jostling to take over the throne, resulting in chaos in the community.
