The supplicant in the 2020 election petition, former President John Mahama, has filed two new applications in response to the unanimous ruling by the court to disallow him from reopening his case.
The applications comprise of one asking for a stay of execution of ruling of the court and another asking for a review of an 11th February ruling of the court that the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Jean Adukwei Mensa, cannot be compelled to give evidence in the case.
Both applications had been filed while the seven-member panel was giving its ruling on Mr. Mahama’s motion to reopen his case.
A reopening of the case would have enabled the petitioner to subpoena Jean Mensa, the EC Chairperson, for cross-examination but the court dismissed it on a number of grounds, including that Jean Mensa cannot be compelled to testify.
The case has been adjourned to tomorrow the 17th of February.
