MPs refusal to be exemplary in the need to test for the deadly coronavirus and practice proper sanitary and preventive protocols has incensed Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin into resorting to a threat to self-isolate.
Some members of Parliament who have tested positive to the COVID-19 are reportedly still coming to the Chamber, forcing the Speaker to threaten to publish their names.
The threat was contained in a statement issued on his behalf by First Deputy Speaker, Joe Osei Wusu, who relayed the Speaker’s frustration over the fact that these MPs who are already carrying the virus are refusing to
The identities of these walking contagions are currently unknown, and there are no records of the number of the colleague MPs these infected MPs may have infected.
The Speaker reiterated his directive for all Members of the House who have tested positive for the virus to withdraw from the precinct of Parliament, isolate for the required duration and only return to Parliament when cleared of the virus.
The remaining fifty (50) MPs who have not as yet availed themselves of free testing that has been arranged for MPs were also ordered to do so.
It is not only MPs who have been told to get tested, members of the Parliamentary press corps have also been told to get tested. However, it is reported that only 10 MPs have availed themselves of the free tests arranged for them.
